Our Story

Established in 2014

Ugenya Diploma Primary Teachers Training College (UDPTTC) is located in Siaya County Ukwala Sub County. The college was established in 2014 as a P1 teacher training college and opened its doors for pioneer students in September 2014. The college sits on a 15-acre piece of land that was financed by NG-CDF Ugenya Constituency 2013-2017. Ugenya DPTTC was an initiative of the area Member of Parliament, Hon David Ochieng’ whose vision culminated into mooting the idea of the college for training teachers in Ugenya. It is located seven kilometers from Ukwala Town, the Ugenya Sub-County headquarters along Ukwala-Nyaharwa road. It is also accessible from Sega –Aboke – Nyaharwa road and Bumala – Got Rembo – Obet road.

The college is managed by a Board of Management (BOM), under the leadership of MR. Michael Gweno & which consists of 13 members appointed by the Government to represent the community, professionals and various stakeholders.

The Chief Principal Mr. John Chivile serves as the Secretary to the Board. The construction commenced in June 2014 after a colorful ground breaking ceremony that was held on the 29th of May 2014, presided over by Mr. Masese, the Director of Secondary Education on behalf of the then Principal Secretary Ministry of Education Dr BelioKipsang. The college opened its doors for the first intake of students on the 15th October 2014 after the partial completion of the first two dormitories and four classrooms in a record time of four months. The first group of students totaling 265 teacher trainees were selected through the quota system by the Ministry of Education and therefore the college enjoys a national outlook, since the students come from all over the country.Ugenya Diploma Primary Teachers’ Training College have since produced highly trained Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and teachers trainees who are capable of handling grade 1 to 9 classes.
